Rappahannock Cellars Story
A quarter of a century ago, the Delmare family began their wine growing pursuits. Here, the journey started at Saratoga Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. Populated by century-old Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, and Zinfandel Wines, this vineyard was situated 1,300 feet above the Santa Clara Valley with gorgeous views of San Francisco. However, the Delmare family decided to make their move to another prime winegrowing location that would better suit a family environment.
Therefore, the family moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Here, Rappahannock Cellars was truly born on 15 acres of Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Viognier, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 12 Delmare children have each had and will have a turn tending the vineyards and learning from the land as their parents do. At the forefront of the winery is family and the joy of truly experiencing the fruits of labor!

The wines at Rappahannock Cellars have been the recipients of many prestigious awards. These include gold, silver, and best of medals in a variety of local, regional, national, and even international competitions. Starting in 2007, Rappahannock Cellars has received awards for the Indy International Wine Competition, Atlantic Seaboard Wine Competition, Virginia Governor’s Cup Wine Competition, San Francisco International Wine Competition, Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, and much more!
