Chester Gap Cellars’ Story

Chester Gap Cellars is a family-run vineyard and winery. The Jung family took years to find the perfect vineyard to purchase before finding what is now Chester Gap Cellars. One of the major reasons for purchasing the property was the existence of ideal grape-growing conditions. The high elevation and eastern exposure have provided well-drained rocky soils and nearly frost-free temperatures. Cool summer weather provides the perfect conditions for vineyard grapes as they grow to ripeness. The view was also a driving factor for the purchase; visitors can see for miles off the side of the mountain.

Chester Gap Cellars Experience

The experience at Chester Gap Cellars is rustic and tranquil. When arriving at the vineyard, visitors must drive up a narrow dirt road lined with grapevines. The vineyard is open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tasting fees are $7, but are waived with the purchase of a bottle. The tasting room is beautifully decorated with unique wooden details, but it is the open-air patio that steals the show. The deck suspends over the vines and overlooks the valley, providing one of the most breathtaking views in Northern Virginia. Buy a bottle of wine and have a picnic on one of the outdoor tables as you breathe in the fresh mountain air.

Chester Gap Cellars Wines

Chester Gap Cellars specializes in estate-grown Viognier, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and some innovative blends. Not only are the grapes grown in prime conditions, they are also tended for lovingly and expertly. The Jung family believes in allowing the grapes to reach their maximum potential with the least amount of intervention in the vineyard. Harvesting can take up to 3 weeks because the family will carefully select only the ripened grapes. Try a crisp Viognier with hints of honeysuckle and peach or blackberry Cabernet Franc. No matter what wine you choose, it will show exactly how quality Virginia wine should taste.
