History of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival

The Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival has been a popular event in the Shenandoah Valley for almost 100 years. The first festival was held during May in 1924. It was just one day but now has expanded to 10 days full of fun events. As the festival began to decline in popularity, the celebrity aspect was added with visitors like President Lyndon B. Johnson and famous sports players. It is a tradition for an annual cleanup to be held before the festival: the population of Winchester is less than 30,000, but it is estimated that almost 300,000 people visit for this event. The town joins together to put up the pink and white decorations as they prepare for this famous festival!
